Theatre personalities in Rangpur have stressed on writing and staging more time-befitting dramas to entertain the people and eliminate all sorts of curses and superstitions from the society.
They put importance on enriching Bengali culture and strengthening cultural movement, producing more drama artistes and popularising stage and street dramas to ascertain secular spirit in the society for building a peaceful Bangladesh.
They expressed the views in the discussion organised by traditional drama institution ‘Rangpur Podatik’ to celebrate its 37th founding anniversary on the Town Hall square in the city on Monday.
The celebrations began with hoisting of the national flag and organisation flag amid rendering of the national anthem in front of ‘Rangpur Podatik’ office.
Later, a colourful ‘Shobhayatra’ was brought out on the city streets with participation of the members of ‘Rangpur Podatik’, dramatists, drama artistes and cultural personalities, activists and leaders of different drama organisations.
With founding President of ‘Rangpur Podatik’ and noted drama artist Bijoy Prasad Tapu in the chair, President of ‘Rangpur Nattya Chakra’ Khondker Abdul Mazid Hiru attended the discussion as the chief guest.
Founding General Secretary of ‘Rangpur Podatik’ GM Nazu delivered welcome speech narrating the activities being conducted by the organisation since its inception to produce popular drama artists and staging stage and street dramas, reports BSS.
General Secretary of ‘Rangpur Nattya Kendra’ Razzaque Murad, General Secretary of ‘Rangpur Nattya Chakra’ Hasan Ali, Treasurer of ‘Rangpur Podatik’ Anwar Hossain Russo and its Member Manik Sarker Manik, among others, addressed the function.
Members of ‘Rangpur Podatik’ recited poems, rendered songs and dances and staged mime and drama in the cultural evening jointly moderated by its incumbent General Secretary SB Suman and theatre personality Nasir Uddin Suman.
