In the recent past, not many action thrillers have found success due to audiences finding them bland and wanting different stories.
Among the outliers, John Wick stands out as one of the most successful action thriller franchises of all time, with the beloved Keanu Reeves in action as John Wick.
The success of this franchise prompted director Chad Stahleski to create the sequel titled John Wick: Chapter 4, continuing the story from the previous instalments.
Every John Wick film had a revenge-driven story in one way or another. But this time, this revenge is not for his beloved pet dog, rather it's about John being betrayed by his own friend and organization and left to die.
In the previous film John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, John is seen breaking the rules of one of the major crime syndicates High Table. Expelled, he seeks a way to reclaim his honour and a place back in the syndicate. But even after rightfully reclaiming his place back after a series of events, he got betrayed by the High Table.
The newly released trailer shows the continuation of this story. John Wick is seen healing from the serious injuries that his friend Winston from High Table caused him.
He is now allied with Bowery King (played by Laurence Fishburne), a former associate of the High Table who was also betrayed by the organisation. They are preparing themselves to take down the whole syndicate and their common enemy.
Not much plot is revealed in this trailer, but the rest of the trailer ensures that there will not be less action than in the previous instalments. With guns blazing and swords clashing against each other, the latest John Wick is a full-on Gun-fu show.
John Wick 4 promises enough martial arts fights for the audience of this action genre. The inclusion of Donnie Yen and Hiroyuki Sanada in undisclosed roles means they will never be bored from watching mixed martial arts (MMA) in this film, where Yen is already prominent for introducing this type of action in mainstream movies since the 2000s.
The main protagonist, John Wick, needs no introduction. No matter how tough the other assassin is, John will always come out on top. Keanu Reeves will reprise the role of this skilled assassin for the fourth time in this franchise.
With the release date announced on March 24th of 2023, fans will get to see him in action once more and certainly expect this film to keep the hope that its trailer showed.
