The national council of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF) has begun at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital to select 67-member executive committee for the next three-year term.
Two-day event of the BGTF, leading platform of theatre troupes of the country, will end on May 5.
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury inaugurated the 23th national council as the chief guest with the incumbent BGTF chairman Liaquat Ali Lucky in the chair.
Representatives of 233 BGTF member troupes from different parts of the country are expected to cast their votes to select the new leadership on Saturday. The last election was held in 2014.
The present BGTF chairman Liaquat Ali Lucky and the incumbent presidium member Jhuna Chowdhury are vying for the chairman post.
Besides, the incumbent secretary general of BGTF Akteruzzaman and Kamal Bayazid will contest for the post of secretary general.
