Revered singer Subir Nandi, who departed this life last night, has an impassioned call for everyone, including his fans: bring flowers for me after death.
He expressed it with his daughter, Falguni Nandi. She conveyed her father's call to the media, requesting everyone to fullfill his wish.
"My father wanted everyone to bring flowers after his death. Please bring him flowers at the airport and when you come to see him for the last time," she said.
The body of Subir Nandi will be brought to Dhaka tomorrow morning and it will then be straight taken to the Central Shaheed Minar for people from all walks of life to pay their last respects to him.
After the singer fell ill on his way to Dhaka from Sylhet, he was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital on April 30, local media reports say.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was keeping track of the singer's health, then suggested he should be sent to Singapore for advanced treatment.
Upon her instructions, Dr Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital’s burns unit, also supervised his worsening health conditions and treatment arrangements.
The singer died at the Singapore General Hospital at the age of 66 after suffering four heart attacks with the latest of them last night, Dr Sen said.
Subir Nandi bagged the National Film Award in the category of the Best Male Playback Singer five times for his performance in as many films. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2019.
