The only way to watch and enjoy the historical and old Bangla films in our country on big screens is the Dhaka University film festival as the modern film producers are now busy with the commercial and new trend films, said the viewers and organisers.
The six-day film festival, which began at TSC Auditorium of DU on Monday, will end today.
To protect social values and know our glorious past history, the festival gave us a great opportunity that must expand in different areas in the country, said Tanima, a fine arts student of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University.
“The fest will increase the inspiration and interest of the audience to the Bangla old films. The movies are very enjoyable as it has a different taste,” said Sharier Khan Shad, a member of DU film society to FE.
On average, around 250 viewers, mostly young generation, were present to watch every movie so far, said Shad, who is a member of the organising team.
“It has been a herculean task for us to attract the young generation to the classic movies as they are reluctant to watch such kinds of films in this era,” he added.
The Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) organised the event, marking the International Mother Language Day.
Of 19 films, 18 have already been screened and the last and 19th movie, Halda, is scheduled for 6:30pm.
A filmmaker will be honoured with Hiralal Sen Padak at the event, which is scheduled for 5pm. Dhaka University vice chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman is expected to be present at the function as chief guest.
The DUFS has been arranging the annual film fest since 2000. With the slogan 'Sustha Chalachitra, Sustha Darshak’, the society promotes Bangla films to give different taste and feelings – now on the brink of extinction due to commercialised and modern new trend films.
