Minister lauds youth’s contribution in IT

Science and Technology Minister Yafes Osman lauded Bangladeshi youths for their contribution to the IT and freelancing sector which grabbed developed world’s attention.

The minister said it as a chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the three-day long laptop fair which began on Thursday at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city.

Yafes also urged the youths to build the country in line with the ideology of liberation war and know their capacity in representing the country.

General Secretary of Bangladesh Open Source Network Monir Hasan, at the ceremony, urged the organiser to arrange similar events in divisional and district level to provide the facility and opportunity for local students.

Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) President Mustafa Jabbar welcomed the government's decision to provide incentive in exporting software, services, IT and hardware.

Mustafa believed that the government’s decision of cutting import duty on computer hardware would help the business expand further.

He also put importance to change the current education system into digitalisation to meet the goal of becoming developed country by 2041. 

 This is the 19th edition of the laptop fair.

At the fair a total of 27 stalls, one mega pavilion and 14 mini pavilions have been set up.

Entry fee for the fair, which will remain open from 10am to 8pm, will be Tk 30.

Students and people with disabilities will enjoy free access to the fair. Expo Maker is organising the event.
