Bangladesh internet users increased by 1.96 million in August - the highest in a single month recorded in recent years.
Of them, 1.959 million were from mobile telecoms operators and 0.1 million others from fixed broadband segment, according to a report published by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) today (Sunday).
With the new addition, the number of internet users now stands at 98.1 million, of which only 0.023 million were added in July, the report said.
Grameenphone and Robi are two top mobile telecoms operators in the country.
The telecoms regulator went tougher with them since July until recently over dues, restricting their network expansion and banning their new offers and packages.
Despite all the restrictions, mobile internet usage grew incrementally in the last month, meaning that the restrictions on Grameenphone and Robi left no impact on the acquisition of new customers.
