Launching a website has become very easy and affordable today. This has led to a rapid rise in Bangladeshi news portals. However, many of these news portals are unverified. These unverified websites often publish fake news.
Fake news items with catchy click bait titles are being circulated in social media and are creating controversies among people.
Since a majority of these articles are being spread through social media, Facebook has taken the initiative called The Trust Indicator.
The social media giant announced this project earlier this year to control the fake news that is spread on its platform.
Facebook announced that it would be testing ‘Trust Indicators’ with the help of a small group of news publishers.
It plans to expand the list of publishers in the coming days.
Publishers will not have the option of adding information regarding their corrections policy, ethics policy, facts checking policy, ownership policy via their page publishing tools. These indicators will be displayed on the articles shared via Facebook and users can interact with the indicators to learn more about the news publisher.
Facebook believes that through this initiative they will help people to evaluate articles based on the set indicators. This action is a part of an overall effort of the social media giant to combat fake news and false information on Facebook by empowering its user to make more informed decisions.
