The government has set up a centre to test software quality, a move hailed as ‘another step forward by Digital Bangladesh’ initiative.

Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy inaugurated the Software Quality Testing and Certification Centre at the ICT Division in Dhaka’s Agargaon on Thursday.

He also inaugurated a startup accelerator centre with a target to facilitate the creation of 1,000 innovative products and services by 2021 and a laboratory for a ‘computer incident response team’ to prevent cyber-attack.

The ICT Division has set up the centres and the lab for Tk 310 million.

“I am very proud of the Awami League government’s initiative to set up this facility. We have taken the country another step forward in the Digital Bangladesh initiative,” Joy said.

The quality testing centre already examined quality of three software and the testing of four others is under way, according to the ICT Division.

The centre will initially test software, mobile phone apps, and computer hardware made or bought by the government. The division also plans to extend the services to private firms in the future, reports bdnews24.

IT Minister Mustafa Jabbar and State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
