Eleven per cent children under 18 fall victim to cyber crimes in Bangladesh that pose a major threat to their lives, according to UNICEF.
The Cyber Crime Awareness Foundation, a voluntary organisation, urged all to raise the voice against cyber threat at a seminar titled ‘Good Online Content’, said a press release.
It also called to raise countrywide awareness from now on to protect the children from the menace.
The UNICEF and Facebook jointly organised the function at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre in the city on Friday.
State Minister for Information and Communication Zunaid Ahmed Palak was present as the chief guest on the occasion.
UNICEF Bangladesh representative Edouard Beigbeder and Facebook's Policy programme Manager of India and South Asia Shruti Moghe also attended the event.
According to a recent study conducted by the CCA Foundation, 74 per cent of the cyber victims were between 18 and 30 years, 13 per cent were aged between 31 and 45 and more than 3.0 per cent were older than 46.
The types of crimes include cyberbullying, ID hacking, threats, hacking of ATM card and mobile bank account, and deceiving into buying products online etc.
According to UNICEF data presented in the programme, large number of internet users in Bangladesh is below 18.
