For the 1st time Bangladesh has become World Champion at NASA Space Apps Challenge.
In Best Use of Data Category ‘Team Olik’ from Sylhet has secured top place by beating 1395 teams around the world.
At the primary result announced on 8 December 2018 ‘Team Olik’ made it to Top 4 along with teams from California, Kuala Lumpur and Yamaguchi, Japan. Team Olik became Champion from Sylhet Division in 2018’s NASA Space Apps Challenge- National Hack-a-Thon.
BASIS under the initiative of BASIS Students’ Forum has been organizing NASA Space Apps Challenge every year.
Team Olik’s have made a VR application. Using this application user can experience the NASA lunar landing site in virtual reality. This Lunar VR Project intends to provide experience in virtual reality. It is portable and educative at the same time.
Posts, Telecommunications & ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar, ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP and Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA)’s Managing Director (Secretary) Hosne Ara Begum, ndc have expressed their delights.
Mr Mustafa Jabbar said, Digital Bangladesh is developing by hand holding with the youths of this country. Youth lead Team Olik from Shahjalal University of Science & Technology has made us proud.
Regarding this achievement BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir said, this year our aim was to do better than the rest 3(three) sessions. This year we have become World Champion. This is a great achievement for our country. BASIS is working relentlessly in the process of building Digital Bangladesh. This achievement is one of the milestones in our journey.
