About 23.79 per cent users fell prey to social media account hacking during the period from February 15, 2021 to March 2, 2022, according to a latest survey report.
Apart from this, nearly 50.27 per cent of the victims of cyber attacks in the country are victims of online bullying in various ways, the report, prepared by Cyber Crime Awareness Foundation (CCA Foundation), revealed at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity in the capital's Segunbagicha on Saturday.
These include abuse by defacing images, pornographic content, abuse on social media and online and phone messaging threats which are increasing gradually.
A total of 18 questions were asked to 199 individual victims in the survey from February 15, 2021 to March 2, 2022. Based on their opinion, the report was prepared.
The CCA Foundation President Kazi Mustafiz, the head of the research team, chaired the event.
Senior Lecturer, Law Department, East West University Monira Nazmi Jahan presented the survey findings.
Monira Nazmi Jahan said that misinformation is increasing through the social media platform after the Coronavirus pandemic.
Most of the victims are between 18 and 30 years of age, with a rate of 80.90 per cent.
Some 73.4 per cent of victims do not seek legal recourse after being harassed, as per the report.
Apart from this, only 7.04 per cent of the victims who took legal recourse expressed their satisfaction with the legal services.
