The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) awards MD fellowships of up to 18 months to outstanding medical students to pursue ambitious, experimental projects in basic biomedical research worldwide.
Fellowship holders must study human medicine in Germany and change cities and institutions for at least ten consecutive months to work in an internationally renowned laboratory.

Benefits:
- A Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) MD fellowship is initially granted for 10 to 12 months and maybe extended once by a maximum of 6 months.
- In addition, you receive travel allowances, e.g. for scientific conferences, and participate in tailor-made seminars for BIF fellows and alumni.
- You shall also receive individual and personal support, and a worldwide network of fellows and alumni.
Eligibility:
- Study human medicine in Germany
- Have obtained good or very good marks in the first section of the medical examination or its equivalent (1. Abschnitt der Ärztlichen Prüfung bzw. Äquivalenzprüfung) and during your subsequent studies
- Are prepared to put your studies on hold for your research stay and change your place of work (institution and city) for the entire duration of the MD fellowship, i.e. for at least ten consecutive months.
