Job Context:
Bangladesh Sustainability Alliance is an alliance of private sector and civil society organizations to tackle the environmental challenges of Bangladesh. The loose coalition was brought together by Unilever Bangladesh and BRAC to tackle the plastic crisis. The alliance will work towards bringing a holistic solution to the plastic crisis by reducing plastic usage, promoting plastic recycling and bringing innovative solutions to the ecosystem to bring sustainable changes to protect the climate. It will also work towards articulating relevant priority policy and regulatory issues, develop consistent and evidence-based messaging for these issues and carry out impactful advocacy work. It will develop opportunities for collaboration with relevant organizations/think tanks/social enterprises on environmental issues of concern to industry and organize resources and execution capacity for such projects/activities. The foundational partners of the alliance are Unilever, BRAC, Pran, Standard Chartered Bank, PepsiCo, Coca Cola, Nestle, Marico and Bangladesh Petrochemical Company. Job Responsibilities:
Core Responsibilities:
- Oversees the overall mission, execution and efficacy of the secretariat.
- Collaborates with member organizations and their representatives to achieve the common mission.
- Brainstorms and identifies creative ways in which the member organizations can achieve business commitments with the goal of respecting, supporting, and improving the local and global environments.
- Formalize and establish the coalition as a legal entity.
- Charter the Vision and Mission for the Alliance.
- Make an overall activity plan for the year in consultation with member organizations.
- Conducts research to identify environmental and sustainability concerns, interests, and issues.
- Drive advocacy with the Government on environmental issues on behalf of the Alliance.
- Lead the planning, budgeting and management of alliance activities including the preparation of the action plans for the alliance and its implementation and monitoring.
- Work in close coordination with the foundational partners to work on all the core activities of the alliance.
- Considers sustainability pilots with attention to factors such as cost-effectiveness, feasibility, and ability to scale.
- Drafts and prepares reports, presentations, and proposals; present proposals and recommendations to the advisory committee.
- Develops and maintains appropriate documentation and records including budgets and other financials.
- Prepares documentation required for project funding for various environmental initiatives including proposals and grant applications.
- Maintains current working knowledge of, and ensures compliance with, all applicable national environmental laws and regulations.
- Increasing the membership base of the Alliance and managing the budgets of the Alliance.
Safeguarding Responsibilities:
- Ensure direct supervision of respective field-level staff. Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the programme’s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
- Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
- Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.

Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences, Disaster Science and Management, Climate Change and Development, Environmental Management and any other relevant subject.
- Professional certification and experience in environmental sustainability preferred.

- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in corporate/ social and management is required.
