Tourism in Bangladesh

THIS refers to your editorial "Allowing tourism to come of age" (FE- April 3). Tourist attractions of Bangladesh include historical sites and monuments, resorts, beaches, picnic spots, forests and tribal people, wildlife of various species. Bangladesh is one of the few countries in South Asia, which remains to be explored. It has a delicate and distinctive culture of its own to offer and it is definitely not a tourist haunt like Nepal or India. Tourism is an engine of economic growth. It generates adequate employment and has become a continuously growing sector.
Various attractive and new destinations for tourists have made tourism one of the major sources of income ?for the developing countries. Today tourism plays a central role in bringing the world closer. It has been a major social phenomenon of societies all over the world to visit places and meet people. Tourism helps drive this natural urge of every human being for new experiences and the desire to be both educated and entertained. We live in such a country that others dream of visiting and becoming wiser by the experience. We can help them with right directions, authentic fares, uniform pricing and respect for the personal space of tourists while maintaining basic facilities that we ourselves are enjoying.
We should remember that tourism is travel for pleasure or business or learning and should accordingly be equipped to meet the expectations of the tourists. We must remember that tourism is an ever-evolving, entertaining and thriving industry that contributes to the economic well-being of every nation and generates hundreds of thousands of employment opportunities beside focusing on environment-friendly measures.
