Tax fair is being held now and will continue until November 07. It is a good move by the tax authority and has been continuing for last few years. The fair has manifold benefits as it encourages the taxpayers to submit their return amid festivity without any harassment. We have only 1.1 million taxpayers but we know that when a taxpayer intends to pay taxes, he or she is often subjected to harassment and corruption in the process. Tax fair has changed the scenario and it is refreshing to see a positive change. It is unfortunate that less than 1.0 per cent of our population pay taxes and it is also well-known that lot of wealthy people dodge because poor enforcement of laws and widespread corruption in the tax department. In the developed world around 30 per cent of the population pay taxes and no wonder that they are so developed. When we pay taxes we contribute towards the development of the country.
