The Buriganga river is a lifeline of our Dhaka city, but it has been gradually dying a slow and sure death. When I was a child, I remember, the Buriganga was a clean, vibrant and live river. I remember spending many afternoon riding boats in the river and having fun and frolic with my school friends after school time. Now the very river is stinky and dirty and it doesn't seem like the old day's river.
It is now more like a canal. I hope the government will take steps to bring back the Burignaga's old and vibrant image. The citizens need to be more careful about the river and its cleanliness. In cities around the world, people love their rivers and take care of those. Now when we search in Google about the river we see dirt-filled water, which is really shameful. The Buriganga River is very important for us, economically and environmentally. The river has been facing incessant pollution and now it can't take many more. Due to rampant river pollution, our environment is facing an imminent danger. Every day, 60,000 cubic meter toxic waste is released into the water and it is edging the river towards a sure death. It is high time we saved the river and saved our future generation from living a toxic environment.
