THE holy month of Ramadan teaches us self-restraint and purification and encourages us to live a simple and pure life. It is the month when introspection among the Muslims should be deep. If we look around us we shall find that ours is a greed driven society. Those who are not greedy are labelled as foolish. The holy month of Ramadan comes and goes away every year but we refuse to learn its deeper and intrinsic meaning and adopt ourselves accordingly. Gradually the index of corruption is rising and we cannot blame a section of the society or the politicians alone for the mounting crime. It can only help if we change our attitude towards life. Teachings of Ramadan can help us do so. The holy month of Ramadan observed by more than one billion Muslims around the world, is a time for spiritual purification achieved through fasting, self-sacrifice and prayers. Fasting during Ramadan is one of the five Pillars of Islam. The Islamic belief requires that Muslims perform five central duties in order to strengthen their faith.
The Islamic scholars can greatly influence the common people and play an important part in changing the society by reducing corruption that has reached epidemic proportions in the country. As Muslims, it is our sacred duty to follow the teachings of Islam and enlighten our children with the ideals of Islam.
