ANOTHER incident of death of an alleged terrorist due to bomb blast has taken place near Dhaka international airport which has grabbed the attention of local and international media. Although the government is saying that it was not a suicidal terrorist attack, evidences of the incident suggest otherwise. The Islamic State (IS) has already claimed responsibility for the incident.
As innocent citizens, we do not like to join a debate on whether IS is present in the country or not. We only want that lives of citizens be made safe and secure. Militancy is a global problem and we have to address it through united resistance. There is no scope for the government to be self-complacent and rule out these as stray incidents. It is high time the government creates a national consensus against terrorism so that all parties form a united platform against it. The religious leaders can play an important role in this respect as the militants commit their terrorist acts in the name of religion. First of all, they must create mass awareness about the wrong approach of militants that creates unnecessary divide in the society. People of Bangladesh are by nature peaceful and law abiding and they will never endorse militancy as it goes against the basic principles of Islam.
