INHUMAN attack on Khadija has aroused a strong protest around the country. When the victim is fighting for life, the whole country has stood beside her family during this trying period. Attack on women in our society has become quite common. Parents of girl children, particularly in rural Bangladesh, feel insecure to send their daughters to schools. Most of them accompany their children when they go to school only to make sure that they reach their schools safe. But despite the best efforts of parents, we see incidents like Tonu and Khadija taking place. Khadija's life continues to hang in the balance between life and death. When a girl child is born in our society the parents start worrying about her future safety and security as crooked elements like Badrul are at large in society. We must make the society safe and secure for women to ensure the growth and prosperity of the country. Women constitute half of our population and we cannot expect to go ahead keeping our women vulnerable to hooligans and criminals quite a few of whom enjoy immunity due to their political identity. We must build a social resistance to weed out these elements who are devoid of minimum sense of respect for women. We must make the world beautiful for Khadijas. Political identity or social influence of the criminals should not stand on the way of justice and the offenders should be tried and punished according to law. Let us make our country safe for women.
