THE government has decided to do away with the system of admission tests for the primary students particularly for grade one. This is a commendable move by the present government. Whereas students are getting admitted to their colleges without admission test after passing the SSC exam, the same should apply to primary education too. The question that is being asked around the world by intellectual, social thinkers and planners is whether tertiary education is required for all or not. We see around us engineers, doctors, physicists, chemists, mathematicians working for banks and some other services like armed forces. A degree in medicine from a medical college or a bachelor in engineering is required for the job of a medical practitioner or a technical personnel, a degree in engineering or medicine is a sheer wastage if the concerned students engage themselves in other professions. I earnestly request the concerned authorities to look into the matter seriously and revise the existing education system accordingly so that a doctor or an engineer does not go out looking for a non-medical or a non-engineering job.
