Square Pharma generates highest turnover on DSE

Square Pharmaceuticals generated the highest turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Wednesday, as the ten most-traded stocks accounted for 24 per cent of total transactions on the bourse.

Market analysts said investors became enthusiastic about Square Pharma following the news that the company was awarded the good manufacturing practices certificate by Congo.

Square Pharma joined a growing list of medicine exporters from Bangladesh looking to make inroads into the African continent.

According to the DSE data, some 1.15 million shares of Square Pharma were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 186 million, which was 4.33 per cent of the day's total turnover of Tk 4.29 billion.

The company's share closed at Tk 159.50 on Wednesday, losing 2.86 per cent over the previous day.

The company disbursed 42 per cent cash and 7.0 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2019.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 8.44 billion and authorised capital is Tk 10 billion while the total number of securities is 844.23 million.

Sponsor-directors own 34.57 per cent stake in the company, while the institutional investors own 10.30 per cent, foreign investors 19.48 per cent and the general public 35.65 per cent as on February 29, 2020, the DSE data showed.

Grameenphone came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth nearly Tk 186 million changing hands. The company's share fell 4.48 per cent to close at Tk 219.50.

Monno Ceramic clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 169 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 128.80, gaining 1.33 per cent.

LafargeHolcim emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 89 million changing hands. The company's share fell 3.53 per cent to close at Tk 32.70 each.

Orion Pharma notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 82 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 38.70, shedding 5.60 per cent.

The turnover of Brac Bank was Tk 71 million. The bank's share price slumped 9.93 per cent to close at Tk 27.20 each.

BATBC featured a turnover of Tk 68 million. The company's share closed at Tk 828.70 each, losing 5.22 per cent.

The turnover of Khulna Power was Tk 58 million. The company's share slumped 3.95 per cent to close at Tk 41.30.

Beximco featured a turnover of Tk 55 million. The company's share closed at Tk 11.60, losing 4.91 per cent.

Sea Pearl also made its way to the day's top turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 51 million changing hands. The company's share price slumped 9.96 per cent to close at Tk 72.30 each.
