Bourses see upward trend in early trading

Investors active on specific stocks in early trading

The prices of most of the stocks saw upward trend in early trading Wednesday, as investors are active on specific stocks encouraged by the government’s steps to ease the ongoing liquidity crunch.

Following the previous day’s correction, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw upward trend in early trading amid rising trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse gained more than 34 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse rose 60 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX advanced more than 38 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse gained 48 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 38.50 points or 0.66 per cent to reach at 5,828 points at 11:00am.

The two other indices also saw upward trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, rose 15 points or 0.69 per cent to reach at 2,181 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 4.36 points or 0.32 per cent to reach at 1,355 points.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 890 million when the report was filed at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 181 advanced, 24 declined and 34 remained unchanged.

BRAC Bank was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 110 million changing hands, followed by Aamra Networks Tk 63 million, Dragon Sweater Tk 60 million, Monno Ceramic Tk 46 million and IFAD Autos Tk 39 million.

The port city bourse also saw positive trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI-advancing 48 points to stand at 17,895, also at 11:00am.

The Selective Category Index–CSCX–also gained 28 points to stand at 10,817 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 56 gained, 17 declined and 8 issues remained unchanged with Tk 26 million in turnover.
