Top ten traded companies captured 39 per cent turnover of the major bourse on Wednesday while Khulna Power Company topped the chart for second day in a row.
Market insiders said that despite the market closed lower, some investors continued to show their buying appetite on Khulna Power's shares amid higher dividend expectation.
In the last one month, its share price soared 73 per cent or Tk 50 each to close at Tk 118.40 on Tuesday. It was also the highest closing price in the last one year.
The power generation company's share traded between Tk 53 and Tk 118.40 each in the last one year.
The prime bourse also served show-cause notice on the company last week following its recent price hike.
The company replied that there was no undisclosed price sensitive information for recent unusual price hike of its shares.
According to statistics available with the DSE, about 6.99 million shares of KPCL were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 812 million, which was 9.43 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.
The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 8.61 billion which was Tk 7.14 billion on the previous day.
Khulna Power, which was listed on the DSE in 2010, disbursed 55 per cent cash dividend in 2017. In 2016, it paid 75 per cent cash dividend.
The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 1.21 for January-March 2018 as against Tk 1.40 for January-March 2017.
In nine months for EPS was Tk 3.93 for July 2017-March 2018 as against Tk 3.91 for July 2016-March 2017.
The company's paid-up capital is Tk 3.61 billion, authorised capital is Tk 7.0 billion and the total number of securities is 361.28 million.
Active Fine Chemicals followed next, with shares worth Tk 779 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 47.20 each, advancing 7.02 per cent over the previous day.
BBS Cables clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 473 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 6.06 per cent to close at Tk 136.50 each.
United Power emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 264 million changing hands. The power generation company's share price closed at Tk 311.20, gaining 1.17 per cent.
Nahee Aluminum notched the second spot, with shares worth Tk 213 million changing hands. The company's share price soared 9.24 per cent to close at Tk 83.90 each.
The turnover of Shasha Denims was Tk 208 million. The company's share price advanced 2.61 per cent to close at Tk 70.60 each.
National Life Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 161 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 206.90 each soaring 9.99 per cent. It was the days' second highest gainer.
The turnover of IFAD Autos was Tk 160 million. The company's share price rose 2.15 per cent to close at Tk 127.80 each.
Oimex Electrode featured a turnover of Tk 137 million. The company's share price jumped 9.85 per cent to close at Tk 54.60 each.
National Housing Finance was also included in the top 10 turnover chart with shares of Tk 124 million changing hands.
The company's share price plunged 8.45 per cent to close at Tk 66.10 each. It was also the day's worst loser.
