The top 10-traded companies accounted for more than 28 per cent transaction of the Dhaka bourse Wednesday, with Renata topping the chart.
Analysts said investors were mostly active on fundamentally sound stocks like Renata, Square Pharmaceuticals, BRAC Bank and Grameenphone as the market went through a correction phase.
They said that when the market went through a correction mood, some investors took position on fundamentally strong issues to safeguard their position.
According to statistics available with the DSE, about 137,398 shares of Renata were traded, generating a turnover worth nearly Tk 172 million. It was 6.20 per cent of the premier bourse's total transaction.
The pharmaceutical company's share price traded between Tk 1,230 and Tk 1,249.80 each, before closing at Tk 1,230.90, shedding 1.16 per cent over the previous session.
The company's six months consolidated earnings per share stood at Tk 20.08 for July-December, 2017 as against Tk 17.39 for July-December, 2016.
The board of directors of the Renata, which was listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange in 1979, disbursed final 130 per cent cash and 15 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2017.
Recently, two factories of the Renata has approved by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Agency (MHPA) of the UK. The company has also received registration for two products in the UK.
Apart from Renata, the most other active shares in terms of value included Square Pharmaceuticals, BRAC Bank, Grameenphone, Salvo Chemical Industries, IFAD Autos, Mercantile Bank, Pharma Aids, City Bank and Monno Ceramic Industries.
Square Pharma followed next with shares worth Tk 144 million changing hands. The second largest market cap company's share price closed at Tk 304.80 each, losing 1.10 per cent over the previous session.
BRAC Bank was the third, with shares of Tk 109 million changing hands. The bank's share price advanced 1.64 per cent to close at Tk 92.70 each.
GP clinched the fourth spot, with shares worth Tk 71 million changing hands. The largest market-cap company's share price fell 1.20 per cent to close at Tk 461.60 each.
Salvo Chemical emerged as fifth with shares of Tk 57 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 25 each, losing 3.47 per cent over the previous session.
The turnover of IFAD Autos was Tk 54 million. The company's share price fell 0.51 per cent to close at Tk 117.40.
Mercantile Bank was the sixth with shares worth Tk 46 million changing hands. The bank's share price closed at Tk 21.10, advancing 1.93 per cent.
Pharma Aids saw its shares worth more than Tk 45 million changed hands. The company's share price fell 4.06 per cent to close at Tk 438.70 each.
The turnover of City Bank was nearly Tk 45 million. Each share of the bank closed at Tk 38.38, gaining 2.64 per cent.
Monno Ceramic was also included in the top ten turnover chart with shares worth Tk 44 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 0.52 per cent to close at Tk 134.20 each.
