Top 10 traded cos snare 34pc transaction

The largest market-cap listed company - Grameenphone (GP) topped the Dhaka bourse's transaction chart Monday while top 10 traded companies accounted for 34 per cent of the total turnover.

Dealers said investors were active on GP's share throughout the trading session. Square Pharmaceuticals, the second largest market-cap listed company emerged as the second highest turnover leader.

GP and Square Pharma together grabbed more than 17 per cent of the Dhaka Stock Exchange's total turnover. The total turnover stood at Tk 4.06 billion on the DSE.

An analyst said when the market went through a correction phase; a section of investors took position on fundamentally sound stocks like GP, Square Pharma to safeguard their investment.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 826,079 shares of GP were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 395 million, which was 9.73 per cent of the premier bourse's total transaction.

The leading mobile operator's share price hovered between Tk 473 and Tk 482, before closing at Tk 43.60, shedding 0.50 per cent over the previous day.

The company also posted a 7.95 per cent growth in earning per share (EPS) in third quarter (Q3) for July-September, 2017 period. EPS was 5.16 in for July-September, 2017 as against Tk 4.78 for July-September, 2016.

In nine months, for January-September period of 2017, EPS was Tk 15.88 as against Tk 12.70 for January-September, 2016.

Square Pharma followed next, with shares of Tk 306 million changing hands. The second largest market cap company's share price closed at Tk 308.60, advancing 0.82 per cent over the previous day.

IFAD Autos notched the third spot, with shares of Tk 118 million changing hands. The bank's share price fell nearly 1.51 per cent to close at Tk 130.50.

Mercantile Bank emerged as fourth with shares of Tk 109 million changing hands. The bank's share price closed at Tk 23 each, slumping by 5.74 per cent over the previous session.

The turnover of state-run National Tubes was Tk 108 million. The company's share price fell 3.53 per cent to close at Tk 136.60 each.

City Bank featured a turnover of Tk 83 million. The bank's share price fell 2.51 per cent to close at Tk 46.60.

The turnover of United Power Generation & Distribution Company was Tk 64 million. The power generation company's share price settled at Tk 163.70, losing 0.48 per cent.

Bangladesh Thai Aluminium featured a turnover of Tk 63.50 million. The engineering sector company's share price lost 2.88 per cent to finish at Tk 30.30 each.

The turnover of Dragon Sweater was Tk 63 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 20.30, remaining unchanged over the day before.

Brac Bank was also included in the top ten turnover chart with shares of Tk 62.79 million changing hands. The bank's share price fell 0.97 per cent to close at Tk 101.70.
