Ten most traded companies accounted for 25 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Tuesday, with the United Power Generation & Distribution Company making it to the top of the turnover chart for the second straight session.

Investors continued to show their appetite for the United Power's shares amid positive expectations as its earnings soared, market analysts said.

The company's consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 5.19 for January-March 2019 quarter as against Tk 2.40 (separate) for the same period last year.

For July 2018-March 2019 period, the consolidated EPS stood at Tk 12.88 as against Tk 7.01 (separate) for July 2017-March 2018 period.

The consolidated net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) was Tk 10.52 for July 2018-March 2019, compared to Tk 6.67 (separate) for July 2017-March 2018.

The consolidated net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk 66.29 as on March 31, 2019 and Tk 34.00 (separate) as on June 30, 2018.

According to the DSE data, about 799,152 shares of the United Power were traded on Tuesday, generating a turnover of Tk 296 million, which was 5.11 per cent of the prime bourse's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 5.78 billion as against Tk 4.84 billion in the previous session.

The power generation company's share closed at Tk 371.60, advancing 2.03 per cent over the previous day.

The company's share traded between Tk 225.70 and Tk 422.50 in the last one year.

The United Power, listed on the DSE in April 2015, disbursed 90 per cent cash and 20 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 4.79 billion, authorised capital is Tk 8.0 billion and the total number of securities is 479.08 million.

The sponsor-directors own 90 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 6.68 per cent, foreign investors 0.06 per cent and the general public 3.26 per cent as of April 30, 2019, the DSE data show.

The JMI Syringes came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 206 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 414.80 each, soaring 7.57 over the previous day.

The BBS Cables clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 147 million changing hands. Its share price rose 3.38 per cent to close at Tk 100.90 each.

The Square Pharmaceuticals emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 142 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 257.70 each, inching up 0.58 per cent.

The Khulna Power notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 125 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 59.60 each, shedding 1.81 per cent.

The turnover of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation was Tk 120 million. The state-run company's share closed at Tk 50.50 each, gaining 3.69 per cent over the previous day.

The BRAC Bank featured a turnover of Tk 114 million. The company's share price advanced 2.02 per cent to close at Tk 65.50 each.

The turnover of Eastern Housing was Tk 100 million. The company's share closed at Tk 54 each, advancing 0.56 per cent.

New Line Clothings featured a turnover of Tk 93 million. The company's share price soared 8.07 per cent to close at Tk 24.10 each.

Doreen Power also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 90 million changing hands. Its share price rose 1.35 per cent to close at Tk 82.10 each.
