Ten most traded companies accounted for nearly 27 per cent of transactions on the prime bourse on Thursday, with the National Tubes bagging the top spot of the turnover chart.
The state-run National Tube's share price soared more than 36 per cent in one month's time amid rumours that the company has got a work order to establish new pipelines all over the country and the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has refunded the advance tax to it.
The National Tubes, however, denied the rumours, saying that the company authority does not have any idea about the source of such rumours.
According to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) data, about 913,853 shares of National Tubes were traded on Thursday, generating a turnover of nearly 153 million, which was 3.72 per cent of the day's total turnover of Tk 4.12 billion.
Its share traded between Tk 160.20 and Tk 171, before closing at Tk 163.90, losing 1.82 per cent over the previous day.
The National Tubes, listed on the DSE in 1989, disbursed 10 per cent stock dividend in 2018.
The company's paid-up capital is Tk 316.56 million and authorised capital is Tk 1.0 billion while total number of securities is 31.65 million.
The sponsor-directors own 0.05 per cent stake in the company, while the government owns 51 per cent, institutional investors own 20.14 per cent and the general public 28.81 per cent as of August 31, 2019, the DSE data showed.
Grammeenphone came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 135 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 1.21 per cent to close at Tk 359.40 each.
National Polymer clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 119 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 97 each, gaining 4.86 per cent over the previous day.
Singer Bangladesh emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 115 million changing hands. The company's share inched up by 0.52 per cent to close at Tk 212.20 each.
Fortune Shoes notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 112 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 29 each, losing 7.93 per cent.
The turnover of Sonar Bangla Insurance was Tk 106 million. The insurer's share closed at Tk 36 each, soaring 9.42 per cent.
Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company featured a turnover of Tk 101 million. The state-run company's share closed at Tk 121 each, advancing 3.60 per cent.
The turnover of Monno Ceramic was Tk 97 million. The company's share price jumped 9.47 per cent to close at Tk 181.40 each.
Bank Asia featured a turnover of Tk 83 million. The bank's share closed at Tk 19.80 each, rising 9.39 per cent.
The VFS Thread Dyeing also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 77 million changing hands. The company's share fell 2.28 per cent to close at Tk 25.70 each.
