Ten companies account for 24pc of weekly turnover on DSE

The ten most-traded companies accounted for 24 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in the outgoing week, with Beximco leading the turnover chart for a third straight week.

Market insiders said Beximco -- the flagship company of Beximco Group -- led the turnover chart again as investors were active in both buying and selling the company's shares.

According to the DSE data, some 16.71 million Beximco shares were traded during the week, generating a turnover of Tk 1.94 billion, which was 6.12 per cent of the week's total turnover.

The week's total turnover stood at Tk 31.69 billion on the prime bourse as against Tk 27.71 billion in the previous week.

Beximco's share closed at Tk 114.20 on Thursday, losing 2.06 per cent further over the previous week. Its shares hovered between Tk 13.40 and Tk 187.90 in the last two years.

The company's share skyrocketed to Tk 187.90 on November 11, 2021 before it started to decline.

Beximco has led the market from the front in the past few months while a big jump in its net profit prompted investors to buy the company's shares, said a stockbroker.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) for nine months from July 2021 to March 2022 jumped 207 per cent to Tk 13.18 as against Tk 4.30 for July 2020-March 2021 period.

The company's EPS for three months (January-March 2022) also soared to Tk 4.51 as against Tk 2.38 for January-March 2021.

Beximco, listed on the Dhaka bourse in 1989, disbursed 35 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2021. In 2020, it provided a 5.0 per cent cash dividend.

Matin Spinning Mills came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 952 million changing hands. The company's share price jumped 10.85 per cent to close at Tk 78.70 on Thursday.

KDS Accessories clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 946 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 77.10 on Thursday, rising 3.49 per cent over the previous week.

Fortune Shoes emerged as fourth, with shares worth Tk 654 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 80.10 on Thursday, remaining unchanged over the previous week.

IPDC Finance notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 605 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 5.04 per cent to close at Tk 56.50 on Thursday.

Turnover of Sonali Paper & Board Mills was Tk 587 million. The company's share price plunged 6.41 cent to close at Tk 598.70 on Thursday.

Orion Infusion featured a turnover of Tk 531 million. Its share closed at Tk 104.70, losing 2.24 per cent over the previous week.

The turnover of Kattali Textile was Tk 523 million. The company's share price rose 6.06 per cent to close at Tk 24.50 on Thursday.

Square Textile featured a turnover of Tk 436 million. The textile maker's share closed at Tk 69.20, soaring 7.45 per cent over the week before.

Shinepukur Ceramics also made its way to the week's top turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 412 million changing hands. The company's share slumped 3.90 per cent to close at Tk 41.90 on Thursday.
