The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) ticked higher on Tuesday, the last trading session before Eid-ul-Fitr vacation, as investors took position on sector-wise stocks.
The markets started on a positive note which continued till end of the session with no sign of reversal, finally the bourses ended with higher notes, extending the gaining streaks for second straight session.
DSEX, benchmark index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, settled at 5,365, advancing 38.78 points or 0.72 per cent over the previous session.
The market insiders said the bourses ended higher as pre-Eid sale pressure eased somewhat and it was the last trading session before Eid vacation.
Two other indices of the premier bourse also ended marginally higher.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 5.23 points to finish at 1965 points and DSES (Shariah) gained 9.72 points to close at 1,238 points.
Trading activities also increased slightly as total turnover on the DSE amounting to Tk 4.57 billion, against Tk 4.50 billion.
The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 339 issues traded, 198 closed higher, 88 closed lower and 53 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Khulna Power Company topped the DSE turnover chart with shares worth Tk 222 million changing hands, closely followed by Monno Ceramic Industries, Pharma Aids, United Power and Grameenphone.
The port city bourse also closed higher with its CSE All Share Price Index – CAPSI-advancing 115 points to settle at 16,511 and Selective Categories Index - CSCX – gaining 69 points to finish at 9984 points.
Here too, the gainers beat the losers as 119 issues closed higher, 71 lower and 24 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 3.27 million shares and mutual fund units worth more than Tk 133 million in turnover.
