Stocks rise, Oimex Electrode makes flying debut

Stocks witnessed positive trend in early trading on Monday as investors are active on newly listed stock.

Oimex Electrode, which made its shares trading debut today, attracted the investors most and dominated the turnover chart with shares of 422 million changing hands within first 30 minutes of trading.

Each share of the company is trading between Tk 79 and Tk 120 on the Dhaka bourse till 11:00am against issue price of Tk 10.

Following the previous day’s correction, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened positive amid slow turnover activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced 4.35 points while the Selective Category Index of the port city bourse advanced 14 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX advanced more than 5.0 points while the Selective Category Index of the port city bourse rose 21 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 5.56 points or 0.09 per cent to stand at 6,078 points at 11:00am.

The two other indices also saw positive trend. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips advanced 1.73 points or 0.07 per cent to 2,200.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 0.87 points or 0.06 per cent to 1,325 points.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 1.14 billion after 30 minutes of trading when the report was filed at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 110 advanced, 88 declined and 47 remained unchanged.

The newly listed Oimex Electrode was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 422 million changing hands, followed by IFAD Autos with 125 million, Brac Bank Tk 52 million, BBS Cables Tk 49 million and Western Marine Shipyard Tk 35 million.

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange –also saw positive trend at the opening with its Selective Category Index – CSCX –advancing 21 points to stand at 11,406 points, also at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 51 gained, 33 declined and 17 issues remained unchanged with Tk 155 million in turnover.
