Stocks ended marginally higher on Sunday as some investors continued to show their appetite on sector-wise shares amid dividend expectation.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 20.78 points or 0.41 per cent to settle at 5,033.
The market opened on positive note and the upward trend sustained until end of the session amid modest volatility.
Market analysts said the bargain hunters went buying on selective large-cap stocks at lucrative price as their price fell sharply in recent correction.
Two other indices also edged higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 8.55 points to finish at 1,766 and the DSE Shariah Index rose 4.41 points to close at Tk 1,171.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Tk 3.71 billion, which was 13 per cent lower than the previous day’s Tk 4.27 billion.
A total number of 115,995 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with trading volume of 96.93 million shares and mutual fund units.
The market-cap of the DSE also rose to Tk 3,759 billion on Sunday, from Tk 3,745 billion in the previous session.
Gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 353 issues traded, 172 closed higher, 129 ended lower and 52 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
National Tubes topped the turnover chart with shares worth Tk 326 million changing hands, followed by Beacon Pharma, Monno Ceramic, Stylecraft and Monno Jute Stafflers.
National Tubes was also the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.97 per cent while Phoenix Finance First Mutual Fund was the day’s worst loser, plunging by 7.35 per cent.
The port city’s bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange, also ended marginally higher with its All Shares Price Index (CAPSI) -- CASPI—gaining 28 points to close at 15,292 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX – advancing 17 points to finish at 9,284.
The losers beat the gainers as 113 issues closed lower, 100 ended higher and 38 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city’s bourse traded 5.10 million shares and mutual fund units worth nearly Tk 137 million in turnover.
