Stocks open down in early trading after Eid holidays

Dhaka and Chittagong bourses witnessed a negative trend in the early hour of trading on Monday, the first session after Eid al-Fitr holidays.

The presence of the investors is also thin on the trading floor as many investors are yet to resume businesses in Dhaka after enjoying Eid holidays in rural areas.

Trading and official activities on the bourses remained closed from June 13 to June 17 on the occasion of the biggest religious festival of the Muslims.

The trading on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) started at 10:30 am and will continue till 2:30 pm.

Following the previous day’s upward movement, the DSE and the CSE opened higher but turnover remains low.

Within 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced 6.74 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of the port city’s bourse gained 7.24 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, DSEX fell slightly by 1.22 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) lost 3.29 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 1.22 points, or 0.02 per cent, to reach at 5,364 points at 11:00am.

Of two other indexes, DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also saw a fractional loss of 0.80 point to reach  1,958 points, and DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 2.23 points to reach at 1,240 points till then.

Turnover, an important indicator of the capital market, stood at Tk 754 million when the report was filed at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 111 advanced, 60 declined and 46 remained unchanged.

Alif Industries was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 123 million changing hands, closely followed by GP Tk 103 million, Monno Ceramic Industries Tk 55 million, Berger Paints Tk 48 million and Usmania Glass Tk 40 million.

The CSE also saw negative trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index, CASPI, losing 3.29 points to stand at 16,502, also at 11:00am.

The Selective Category Index, CSCX, also fell 2.05 points to stand at 9,978 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 21 gained, 23 declined and 9 issues remained unchanged with Tk 8.0 million in turnover.
