Many large cap companies lost prices marginally in last week despite small cap issues saw price appreciation and dominated the chart of top gainers on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
During the week, the large cap companies including Grameenphone saw price correction ranging 0.36 per cent to 5.86 per cent on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
On the other hand, many small cap companies including 'Z' category issues saw price appreciation ranging 5.50 per cent to 30.48 per cent per share.
"The companies having good fundamentals have not seen massive price correction in last week amid Ukraine-Russia war crisis. The market prices of companies having good fundamentals eventually sustain," said the managing director of a leading merchant bank.
He said the companies having weak fundamentals rally in different time but eventually those prices fail to sustain.
Of the large cap companies, the share price of Grameenphone declined 3.83 per cent in last week and closed at Tk 328.80 each on Thursday.
Of other large cap companies, the share price of BRAC Bank declined 5.86 per cent, Square Pharmaceuticals 2.24 per cent, Renata 0.36 per cent, British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company 0.73 per cent, MJL Bangladesh 2.66 per cent and United Generation and Distribution Company 0.91 per cent.
These companies have notable contribution behind the movement of the DSE broad index DSEX.
Following the price correction of large cap companies, the DSEX in last week declined 2.09 per cent or 142.29 points and closed at 6696.52 on Thursday.
Following investors' lower participation in transaction, the premier bourse DSE hit 10-month low turnover of Tk 6.44 billion on Thursday.
Market insiders said turnover declined significantly as investors adopted wait-and-see approach following Ukraine-Russia war crisis.
Of the large cap companies, the share price of Beximco, however, advanced marginally on the premier bourse in last week.
The company's share price advanced 1.67 per cent in five sessions of last week and closed at Tk 152.40 each on Thursday.
Many of the small cap companies whose share prices advanced are 'Z' category ones which dominated the gainers chart of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
Of the small cap companies of 'A', 'B' and 'N' category companies saw price appreciation ranging 5.14 per cent to 14.89 per cent.
Of the companies, the share price of Sunlife Insurance Company advanced 14.89 per cent, Shurwid Industries 11.05 per cent, Takaful Islami Insurance 10.16 per cent, Fareast Islami Life Insurance Company 7.57 per cent, BD Thai Food & Beverage 6.94 per cent, Mozaffar Hossain Spinning Mills 6.23 per cent and Evince Textiles 5.50 per cent.
Of the 'Z' category companies, Meghna Pet Industries saw the highest price appreciation of 30.48 per cent in last week and closed at Tk 27.40 each on Thursday.
The share price of Meghna Condensed Milk Industries went up by 20.61 per cent while the price of Savar Refractories advanced 15.20 per cent in last week.
Of other 'Z' category companies, the share price of Zeal Bangla Sugar Mills rose 14.18 per cent, Imam Button Industries rose 13.62 per cent, Jute Spinners 11.56 per cent, Usmania Glass Sheet Factory 7.62 per cent and Shyampur Sugar Mills 6.94 per cent in last week.
