LafargeHolcim generates highest turnover on DSE

The ten most traded companies accounted for one-fifth transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday, with LafargeHolcim Bangladesh generating the highest turnover.

Market insiders said investors scrambled to trade in the shares of LafargeHolicm after it declared 10 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2019.

The multinational cement manufacturer has also reported consolidated earnings per share (EPS) of Tk 1.50, consolidated net asset value (NAV) per share of Tk 13.95 and consolidated net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) of Tk 3.52 for the year ended on December 31, 2019 as against Tk 0.96, Tk 13.41 and Tk 2.68 respectively for the same period of the previous year.

According to DSE data, about 3.20 million shares of LafargeHolcim were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 139 million, which was 3.34 per cent of the day's total turnover of Tk 4.15 billion.

The company's share closed at Tk 42.30 on Thursday, down 2.31 per cent over the day, as the company declared lower-than-expected dividend.

LafargeHolcim, listed on the DSE in 2003, also disbursed 10 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 11.61 billion and authorised capital is Tk 14 billion while the total number of securities is 1.16 billion.

The sponsor-directors own 64.68 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 15.83 per cent, foreign investors 1.0 per cent and the general public 18.49 per cent as of Januray 31, 2020, the DSE data show.

Orion Pharma came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 84 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 3.63 per cent to close at Tk 42.40 each.

Nahee Aluminium clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 79 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 49.70, advancing 6.19 per cent over the previous day.

Beacon Pharma emerged fourth, with shares worth Tk 77 million changing hands. The company's share price soared 7.48 per cent to Tk 63.20.

CVO Petrochemicals notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 76 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 138.90, jumping 8.77 per cent.

The turnover of Orion Infusion was also Tk 76 million. The company's share price rose 3.69 cent to close at Tk 80.80 each.

Brac Bank featured a turnover of Tk 75 million. The company's share closed at Tk 38.50, advancing 2.12 per cent.

The turnover of VFS Thread Dyeing was Tk 74 million. Its share price fell 4.24 per cent to close at Tk 29.30 each.

Hakkani Pulp & Paper featured a turnover of Tk 71 million. The company's share closed at Tk 87.30 each, soaring 9.67 per cent.

Sinobangla Industries also made its way to the day's top turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 70 million changing hands. The company's share price jumped 9.96 per cent to close at Tk 60.70. It was also the day's highest gainer.
