Ten most traded companies captured 34 per cent transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday, with JMI Syringes & Medical Devices bagging the top spot of the turnover chart.
Market analysts said investors showed their appetite for the JMI shares ahead of dividend declaration as the company's financial year ended on June 30.
The share price of JMI Syringes soared 7.82 per cent within five trading days to close at Tk 520.80 on Thursday.
According to DSE data, some 417,525 shares of JMI were traded, generating a turnover of more than 215 million, which was 5.31 per cent of the day's total turnover of Tk 4.05 billion.
The medical devices producer's share traded between Tk 178.50 and Tk 529.80 each in the last one year.
The company's earnings per share (EPS) in nine months for July 2018-March 2019, was Tk 4.91 as against Tk 4.19 for July 2017-March 2018.
The net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk 73.00 as on March 31, 2019 and Tk 68.68 as on March 31, 2018.
Sponsor-directors hold 79.66 per cent stake in the company while the institutions 2.75 per cent and general public the remaining 17.59 per cent as of August 31.
JMI Syringes, listed on the DSE in 2013, disbursed 30 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.
The company's paid-up capital is Tk 221 million and authorised capital is Tk 1.0 billion while the total number of securities is 22.10 million.
National Tubes came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 202 million changing hands. The company's share price soared 9.95 per cent to close at Tk 167.90 each.
Monno Jute Stafflers clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 176 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 1967.90 each, losing 3.18 per cent over the previous day.
Monno Ceramic emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 149 million changing hands. The company's share fell 3.42 per cent to close at Tk 209.20.
Stylecraft notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 139 million changing hands. The textile company's share closed at Tk 879.60 each, losing 4.36 per cent.
The turnover of Legacy Footwear was Tk 125 million. The company's share price rose 7.28 per cent to close at Tk 132.60 each.
Beacon Pharma featured a turnover of Tk 122 million. The company's share closed at Tk 28.70 each, losing 1.03 per cent.
The turnover of Wata Chemicals was Tk 88 million. The company's share price fell 2.90 per cent to close at Tk 652.40 each.
Silco Pharma featured a turnover of Tk 86 million. The company's share closed at Tk 30.80 each, falling 5.52 per cent.
United Power also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 84 million changing hands. The company's share advanced 0.41 per cent to close at Tk 321.10 each.
