Grameephone (GP), the largest market-cap listed company, dominated the Dhaka bourse's transaction chart Tuesday, while ten top-traded companies accounted for 32 per cent of the total transaction.
Market insiders said investors rushed to bag profit on GP shares as the company's first quarter earnings failed to meet investors' expectation, taking the company to top the turnover list.
GP's net profit fell 2.50 per cent year-on-year to Tk 6.39 billion in the January-March quarter of 2018. Earnings per share (EPS) also declined to Tk 4.74 in January-March quarter from Tk 4.86 in the same period a year ago.
According to statistics available with the DSE, about 557,145 shares of GP were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 265 million, which was 5.37 per cent of the Dhaka Stock Exchange's total transaction.
GP's shares traded between Tk 473.10 and Tk 485 each, before closing at Tk 474.30, losing 1.76 per cent or Tk 8.50 each over the previous day.
After first quarter earnings declaration, the GP's share price fell 4.40 per cent or Tk 21.80 each in two trading sessions.
The lone listed mobile phone company recommended 100 per cent final cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2017. And the total dividend will be 205 per cent as the company already paid 105 per cent interim cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2017.
In 2016, the company disbursed a total of 175 per cent cash dividend.
Apart from GP, the most other active shares in terms of value included United Power, Beximco, BRAC Bank, Al-Arafah Islami Bank, Keya Cosmetics, Square Pharmaceuticals, Eastern Lubricants, Monno Ceramic Industries and Queen South Textile.
United Power shares worth Tk 260 million changed hands and the power generation company's share price rose 3.27 per cent to close at Tk 186.10 each.
Beximco was third on the turnover list with shares worth Tk 245 million changing hands.
BRAC Bank clinched the fourth spot, with shares worth Tk 183 million changing hands.
Al-Arafah Bank emerged fifth with shares worth Tk 141 million changing hands.
Keya Cosmetics also saw its shares worth Tk 125 million changed hands.
