Ten most traded companies accounted for 27 per cent transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Monday, with the Fortune Shoes making it to the top of the turnover list again.
Market analysts said investors continued to show their appetite for Fortune shares, buoyed by dividend expectations coupled with the export deal signed with New York-based Steve Madden.
On July 19, Fortune Shoes signed an agreement with Steve Madden for export of shoes worth US$ 4.0 million (Tk 340 million), which is scheduled to be shipped by October.
According to DSE data, about 4.68 million shares of Fortune Shoes were traded on Monday, generating a turnover of Tk 194 million, making up 4.43 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.
The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 4.38 billion on the day, up from Tk 4.06 billion in the previous day.
The shoemaker's share closed at Tk 41.30 on Monday, advancing 1.23 per cent over the previous session.
The company reported a 35 per cent earnings growth for the January-March quarter of 2019.
The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.54 for January-March 2019 as against Tk 0.40 for January-March 2018.
For the nine-month period from July 2018 to March 2019, the company's EPS was Tk 1.67 as against Tk 1.19 for the same period of the previous fiscal.
The United Power came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 173 million changing hands. The power generation company's share closed at Tk 390.80, shedding 2.03 per cent over the previous day.
The Bangladesh Shipping Corporation clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 155 million changing hands. The state-run company's share price inched up by 0.18 per cent to close at Tk 56.9 each.
The Square Pharma emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 130 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 251.4 each, losing 0.12 per cent over the previous day.
Monno Ceramic notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 126 million changing hands. The company's share price soared 9.84 per cent to close at Tk 170.8 each.
The turnover of Singer Bangladesh was Tk 87 million. The company's share closed at Tk 214.7 each, advancing 3.47 per cent.
United Insurance featured a turnover of more than Tk 84 million. The insurer's share price rose 9.55 per cent to close at Tk 67.7 each.
JMI Syringes featured a turnover of Tk 84 million. The company's share closed at Tk 461.4 each, gaining 2.08 per cent.
The turnover of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company was Tk 81 million. The state-run company's share price rose 5.59 per cent to close at Tk 119.10 each.
Beacon Pharma also made its way to the day's top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 74 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 4.05 per cent to close at Tk 23.10 each.
