Dubai road show urges foreigners, NRBs to invest in Bangladesh capital market

Stakeholders urged the foreign investors and non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to invest more in Bangladesh capital market to get a better return.

They were addressing the inauguration of a four-day road show titled "Rising of Bengal Tiger: Potentials of Bangladesh Capital Markets" held at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Dubai on Tuesday. The event was sponsored by UCB Stock Brokerage.

Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) organised the event, first of its kind, outside the country to attract foreign investors and NRBs to the country's stock market.

BSEC Chairman Prof Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam said it is the right time to invest in Bangladesh's capital market as the country's economy is moving forward.

"If you miss the opportunity to invest in Bangladesh capital market right now, you will be proved wrong in future," Mr Rubayat added.

The BSEC chief said already many foreign investors have expressed keenness to invest in Bangladesh as they considered Bangladesh as the right place to invest now.

The roadshow will continue until February 12 where series of seminars and bilateral and multilateral meetings will be held in different places of Dubai, UAE.

BSEC also launched opening online BO account facilitates.

Foreign investors and NRBs will be able to open BO accounts online from now on.

Presided over by the BSEC chief, the event was attended by Land Minister M Saifuzzaman Chowdhury as the chief guest and State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Zahid Ahsan Russel as the special guest.

Managing Director of IDLC Finance Arif Khan was the keynote speaker.

BSEC Commissioner Khondoker Kamaluzzaman, Chairman of UCB Bank Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Chairman of Haramain Group Mohammed Mahtabur Rahman, CEO of UCB Stock Brokerage Rahmat Pasha, Director of Dhaka Stock Exchange Masudur Rahman, executive director of BSEC Mahbubul Alam, President of BMBA Sayadur Rahman and Chairman of NRBC Bank Parvez Tamal, among others, were present.

"Our stock market remained only equity-based. We are focusing on launching bond, debenture, Sukuk and alternative investment funds in the market," said Mr Rubayat.
