DSE, CSE extend trading time by 30 minutes

Country’s two bourses – Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) have extended the trading time by 30 minutes to be effective from August 9 (Sunday).

Trading at the bourses will begin at 10:00am and continue until 2:30pm instead of 10:30pm to 2:30pm. The new schedule will be continued until further notice, according to a separate press release on Thursday.

The DSE management took this decision on demand of stock market stakeholders, stockbrokers and investors as the market remained closed for 66 days from March 26 to May 30 due to Covid-19 pandemic, said the press release.

Normally, the capital market sees a four-hour trading from 10:30am to 2:30pm.

But, the management of the bourses reduced one hour trading time from March 19 in the wake of growing concern over the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic.

The management of the bourses reduced trading time in line with the government’s decision of shutting the schools and colleges as well as limiting meetings and public gatherings following the horrifying situation rendered across the globe by Covid-19.

Later on June 18, the bourses had revised the trading hours from 10:00am to 1:00pm, instead of 10:30am to 1:30pm in line with the banking hours due to rising cases of Covid-19 infections and deaths in the country.

On July 8, the bourses backed in the normal schedule of four hours trading from 10:30am to 2:30pm.
