Stocks extended gaining streak for sixth consecutive session on Wednesday, as optimistic continued their buying appetite on large-cap stocks.
Market insiders said the bourse maintained the upward trend as investors continued their sector-wise stock buying spree taking the core index above 6,300-mark once again.
The market opened amid optimism in the morning and the key index crossing the 6,300-mark within 30 minutes of trading which continued till end of the session, finally ended 38 points higher.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 38.30 points or 0.60 per cent to settle at 6,318.
The two other indices also closed higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips advanced 10.44 points or 0.45 per cent to close at 2,301.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also gained 9.57 points or 0.68 per cent to finish at 1,411.
However, the market turnover was lower than previous session and the total turnover amounted to Tk 5.76 billion, which was 4.99 per cent lower than the previous day’s turnover of Tk 6.06 billion.
The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 336 issues traded, 195 closed higher, 101 lower and 40 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
United Power topped the day’s turnover chart for the third day in a row with 2.70 million shares worth Tk 517 million changing hands, followed by Dragon Sweater, Grameenphone, IFAD Autos and Islami Bank.
Gemini Sea Food was the day's best performer, posting a gain of 5.03 per cent while Kay & Que was the day’s worst loser, plunging by 5.01 per cent.
The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also ended higher with CSE All Shares Price Index- CAPSI- advancing 119 points to finish at 19,542.
The Selective Categories Index of the port city bourse -- CSCX – also gained 75 points to close at 11,814.
Gainers beat losers as 139 issues closed higher, 67 closed lower and 24 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 11.07 million shares and mutual fund units worth Tk 303 million in turnover.
