BSEC yet to publish latest annual report

The securities regulator is yet to publish its annual report for the fiscal year (FY) 2018-19, though the ongoing FY 2019-20 will be ended within June 30, 2020.

The officials of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) said they were unable to publish the annual report by this time as the ministry concerned is yet to approve the report.

"As per the existing laws, the securities regulator has to publish its annual report taking prior approval from the ministry of finance (MoF)," said an official of BSEC.

He said the securities regulator sent the draft annual report for the FY 2018-19 to the MoF in right time.

"But the ministry is yet to approve our draft annual report. The report will be printed just after getting the approval from the MoF," said the BSEC official having involvement with publication of the annual report.

The securities regulator publishes its annual report for the year ended on June 30. The report includes the BSEC's activities conducted throughout the FY.

The information regarding the stock exchanges and some other market operators is also included in the annual report published by the securities regulator.

The BSEC's annual report also includes: enforcement actions taken against the listed companies and market operators, amendments brought to the securities rules, and the financial statement of the commission, among others.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) is not publishing its monthly reports on the exchange's website for last eight months.

The DSE's monthly report for July, 2019 was the last one uploaded on the website.

Apart from publishing printed version, the premier bourse DSE uploads its monthly reports on the website.

Asked, a DSE official said the reports were not uploaded on the website due to some complexities.

"We were also unable to upload the latest monthly report as the exchange was closed suddenly amid the outbreak of COVID-19," the DSE official said.

He said the monthly reports will be uploaded on the exchange's website after end of the ongoing vacation.
