Top ten-traded firms captured more than 24 per cent transaction of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Sunday while Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) topped the chart.
The Bangladesh Shipping Corporation topped the chart as investors showed their appetite amid expectation as the company posted a 129 per cent rise in earnings in January-March quarter.
As per the unaudited financial statements for January-March 2019, its earnings per share (EPS) rose to Tk 0.87 as against Tk 0.38 for January-March 2018.
In nine months for July 2018-March 2019, the company's EPS was Tk 1.76 as against Tk 1.07 for July 2017-March 2018.
According to statistics from the DSE, with 3.94 million shares of BSC were traded on Sunday, generating a turnover worth nearly Tk 199 million, which was 3.71 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.
The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 5.35 billion on the day which was Tk 4.75 billion in the previous session.
The state-run company's share closed at Tk 51.20 each, gaining 6.0 per cent over the previous session.
The company's share traded between Tk 34.90 and Tk 53.70 in the last one year.
The BSC, which was listed on the DSE in 1977, disbursed 6.0 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.
The government owns 52.10 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 13.09 per cent and the general public 34.81 per cent as of March 31, 2019.
National Tubes followed next, with shares worth Tk 177 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 126.70 each, advancing 3.94 per cent over the previous day.
Fortune Shoes clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 137 million changing hands. The company's share price gained 1.35 per cent to close at Tk 37.50 each.
Monno Ceramic emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 120 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 238.60, gaining 4.92 per cent.
United Power notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 119 million changing hands. The power generation company's share price rose 4.06 per cent to close at Tk 320.20 each.
The turnover of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company was Tk 110 million. The company's share price fell 0.91 per cent to close at Tk 152.80 each.
National Polymer featured a turnover of Tk 108 million. The company's share closed at Tk 106.20 each, advancing 0.38 per cent over the previous day.
Genex Infosys featured a turnover of Tk 104 million. The company's share closed at Tk 46.50, losing 3.12 per cent.
The turnover of Active Fine Chemicals was Tk 102 million. The company's share closed at Tk 28.90 each, gaining 0.35 per cent.
The recently listed Esquire Knit Composite also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 99 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 1.31 per cent to close at Tk 45.20 each.
