Bourses open positive amid rising turnover

Stocks opened marginally higher on Tuesday as some investors are putting fresh bets on sector-wise issues.

Following the previous day’s modest correction, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 14.36 points or 0.20 per cent to stand at 7,066, after the first hour of trading at 11:00am.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 2.48 points to reach 2,610. However, the Shariah Index (DSES) saw a fractional loss of 0.86 points to stand at 1,508.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 4.28 billion within the first hour of trading as against Tk 3.62 billion in the first hour trading of the previous day.

Market analysts said the investors are showing their buying interest on selective large-cap stocks based on the latest quarterly earnings results amid declining Covid-19 infection rates in the country.

Of the issues traded till then, 193 advanced, 110 declined, and 70 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor till then.

Bay Leasing was the most traded stock till then with shares worth Tk 343 million changing hands, closely followed by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, Beximco, Delta Life Insurance and LankaBangla Finance.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also opened higher with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)—gaining 57 points to stand at 20,733, while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX rising  35 points to reach at 12,456 at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then 87 advanced, 58 declined, and 26 remained unchanged with Tk 107 million in turnover.
