Beximco dominates week’s turnover chart on DSE   

Bangladesh Export Import Company (Beximco) dominated the week’s turnover chart on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) last week, ending on Thursday.

Market operators said the investors continued their buying appetite on Beximco shares amid positive expectation in days ahead.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 75.37 million shares of Beximco were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 2.30 billion. It was 7.41 per cent of the premier bourse’s total transaction.

The total turnover for week stood at Tk 31.07 billion last week on the DSE, a 14.46 per cent rise over the week before.

The Beximco’s share closed at Tk 30.60 each, registering an increase of 6.62 per cent over the week before.

The company’s earnings per share stood at Tk 0.35 for October-December, 2017 as against Tk 0.21 for October-December, 2016.

In six months, earnings per share were Tk 0.68 for July-December, 2017 as against Tk 0.53 for July-December, 2016.

Beximco, which was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 1989, disbursed 5.0 per cent cash and 5.0 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2017.

The company’s paid-up capital is Tk 8.34 billion and authorised capital is Tk 10 billion, while the total number of securities is 834.58 million.

The sponsor-directors own 20.15 per cent stake in the company while the institutional investors own 11.40 per cent, foreign investors 8.96 per cent and the general public 59.49 per cent as on February 28, 2017, the DSE data shows.

Apart from Beximco, the most other active shares in terms of value included BRAC Bank with shares of Tk 1.14 billion changing hands, followed by Monno Ceramic Industries Tk 818 million, Keya Cosmetics Tk 814 million, Alif Manufacturing Company Tk 675 million, IFAD Autos Tk 667 million and Mercantile Bank Tk 517 million.

Unique Hotel & Resorts was also included in the top ten turnover chart with shares worth Tk 495 million changing hands, followed by Nothern Jute Manufacturing Company Tk 467 million and Alif Industries Tk 445 million.
