Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has said that former cricketer and one of its directors Khaled Mahmud Sujon is likely to serve as the interim coach of Bangladesh national team.

Nazmul Hasan Papon, president of BCB said this at a press conference on Monday.

Despite head coach Chandika Hathurusingha's  reported resignation, BCB has not yet cut ties with him officially. But it is quite sure that the Lankan coach is not coming back. The cricket board is not willing to wait any longer either.

“If we don’t get a foreign coach before the Sri Lanka series, cannot solve the issue, we will hire someone from the locals. In that case, the possibilities of Khaled Mahmud becoming the interim coach are highest,” Papon was quoted by a local news agency as saying.

ESPNcricinfo first reported that Sri Lanka Cricket is pursuing Hathurusingha and is presently in negotiations with him.

Hathurusingha is ranked fourth among most paid cricket coaches. Sri Lankan media have reported that the country's cricket authorities offered him the same amount and facilities as Bangladesh were giving him.

The Lankan coach took charge of Bangladesh cricket team in June 2014. BCB extended his contract last year to the 2019 World Cup.

The coach needs to inform the board about resignation a month before leaving in line with the contract. Now Sri Lanka are not facing much problem with that because they want Hathurusingha in January.
