Neutral umpires to make comeback in Test matches, ICC says

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to bring back the appointment of the neutral umpires in bilateral Test matches to avoid any sort of controversy forth that spoils the spirit of cricket to a great extent.

During a board meeting recently held in Dubai, the authority of the world’s cricket agreed that more neutral match officials should be utilised as travel restrictions due to Covid-19 were lifted while building on the success of the use of home umpires.

According to Hindustan Times, one neutral on-field umpire will make a comeback in Test matches along with the home team's elite panel umpire from the next season.

The report said ICC's Elite and Emirates panel home umpires will continue doing the job for white-ball games.

As such the structure for appointing match officials for the 2022-23 season will be as follows:

 

Following the recent decision to expand the ICC Women’s Championship to ten teams, the ICC Board approved a recommendation that ODI status is extended to some Associate Member women’s teams to enable them to progress to global qualifying events based on ODI rankings.
