Kohli fanatic sets himself on fire

Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli got out cheaply in the first innings of the first Test against South Africa that upset many, but one of his fans took things way too far.

The 29-year-old cricket captain fell to the first ball bowled by Morne Morkel for merely five runs on Friday.

Shortly, distraught at Kohli's dismissal, a 65-year-old man from Ratlam attempted self-immolation.

Babubal Bairva was alone in his home watching the match when the incident took place, reports The Indian Express.

The retired railway employee was so upset at watching his favourite cricketer get out that he reportedly poured kerosene on himself and attempted to self-immolate.

Assistant Sub-inspector of station road police station Pyarsingh Alave, said, Bariya was probably drunk and immolated himself while watching the match after Kohli’s dismissal.

In his dying declaration, Bariya said that he was upset over Kohli’s wicket.

The family said that he was a cricket fan.” One of Bariya’s two sons had also committed suicide in 2009, Alave further added.

Meanwhile, a case has also been registered and further investigation is on.

Investigation is on. The retired employee died around 7.30 am on Tuesday,” said Alave.
