BCB in no hurry for new coach: Papon

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is in no hurry in appointing a new coach, a position which went vacant after the resignation of Chandika Hathurusingha.

BCB higher-ups convened for a meeting on Saturday with the three captains - Mushfiqur Rahim, Mashrafee bin Mortaza, Sakib-al-Hasan along with some of the available resources of the team management to discuss their plan of action for the forthcoming series against Sri Lanka.

Assistant coach Richard Halsall, spin coach Sunil Joshi and manager Khaled Mahmud were part of the meeting during which it was finalised that they would not take any decision regarding their new coach hurriedly.

The three senior cricketers and the team management assured BCB President Nazmul Hasan that they can play the series against Sri Lanka with the existing support staff, as per a Cricbuzz report.

BCB had interviewed Richard Pybus last week while West Indian opener Phil Simmons reached Dhaka on Saturday to give his presentation in front of BCB to fill the shoes of Hathurusingha.

"We wanted to know whether we can play the series against Sri Lanka with present setup and everyone said they are confident that they can do it," Nazmul Hasan told reporters after the meeting at a city hotel on Saturday.

"In that case we are not in a rush to select the head coach and go for the best possible solution,' he said. "It can happen. We can select the coach tomorrow during the board meeting but what if we don't and how they would approach during this interim period,' he said.

"We have asked them to take the preparation because we don't want to rush things down. During the interim period there is Halsall and Sujon [Khaled Mahmud] along with Walsh and others and they said they are capable of handling the series against Sri Lanka," he added.

According to insiders either Khaled Mahmud or Richard Halsall will act as the interim head if BCB fails to appoint the head coach in Saturday board meeting.
