Young tech leaders practise skills for  future

Bangladesh has been continuously doing well in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector in recent times. This is the result of increased youth engagements that are unfolding throughout the country. In this regard, Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors Bangladesh-- an emerging tech community-- is leading from the front.

Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors are globally acclaimed organised units of active campus leaders creating robust tech communities and developing technical skills for the future. This exclusive programme by Microsoft is gradually being extended by the potential student leaders from 95 countries around the world, including Bangladesh.

From February 16 to 19, a virtual back-to-back tech fiesta titled ‘Git with Grit’ was held on the basic and advanced usageof popular versioning tool Git, which is widely used by software developers, and software collaboration platform GitHub. Student ambassadors from Bangladesh were the instructors in this workshop.

With the participation of almost 300 attendees, the series workshop reflected on essential developer skills of the version control system, repository management and opportunities of campus expert programme. By learning the version controlling system Git, a student developer can leverage project management, team collaboration and open source contribution-- all via GitHub from one place.

This series event was led by Student Ambassador Mohammad Iftekher Ebne Jalal from Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology in partnership with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) Student Branch of CUET.

Anjum Rashid, a student ambassador from Jahangirnagar University, shared his remarks quoting, “Most of our engineering undergrads are unaware of the modern development tools and methodologies. As tech leaders, we want to fill this gap by providing a quality learning experience with interactive contents.”

Iftekher added, “The current pandemic has propelled the overall growth in technology and it is high time we, from Bangladesh, strode forward to keep pace with the fast-developing world.”

Jakaria Rabbi, a GitHub campus advisor and assistant professor of CSE at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), was present as the guest speaker. He thanked the organisers for appreciating the culture of spreading technical learnings especially on the version control system for the Bangladeshi students.

Among the participants, Shafin Hossain shared, “This has been a workshop which makes us curious and active in the stream of software development. The three-day-long event intrigued us to know more about an efficient open-source platform like Github.”

Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors Bangladesh community has been working to bring up potential engagements with local tech communities, launch mentorship programmes for campus students, and collaborate with renowned local and global tech firms.
